The story of Estonia's first admiral and his era. Johan Pitka was a man who stood with uncompromising confidence at the pivotal events of the beginning of Estonian statehood, whether it was the formation of the Defense League, the armored trains in the War of Independence or many other important events that required Pitka's own crazy courage. The life of one of the most exciting great figures in our history was as varied and crazy as the man's character. "The Long Legend" brings to life the story of the first Estonian admiral, his era, struggles and dreams through staged scenes with beloved actors, animation and documentary footage.

On one side, there are independent Soviet artists who lack not only the output but also the finances to complete their works. Selling one’s works to the West is a tricky business since the almighty KGB stands between the two mutually interested parties. Nevertheless, an incredible quantity of mainly Estonian and Moscovian visual art is sold and taken across the border. This is facilitated mainly by Western diplomats, behind whose coordinated actions stands none other than the CIA.

Located in the heart of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, the Hippodrome used to be the centre of entertainment for all its neighbouring countries. For nearly 100 years, it has lured visitors with bets and races. All that remains today of this majestic racecourse is a lonely horse stable. Now it is more of a social club than a prestigious racetrack. Animal lovers and sports fans still meet here despite the poor conditions. Bizarre parties and engagement photo sessions are held at the Hippodrome, and this is where the best Swedish racehorses are still trained. This hypnotic black and white film is an ode to a disappearing era and a unique subculture in a place soon to be demolished to make way for the triumphal march of business-oriented real estate development.
