The Healing
The almost 1500 Copenhageners who live on Lundtoftegade in the city’s Nørrebro district are in danger of ending up on the government’s so-called ‘hard ghetto list’, despite several years of social housing initiatives. And what do you do when you have tried everything? You call on the spiritual dimension for help! The collective performance project ‘The Healing’ must expel the evil forces before it’s too late and before 60% of the residents risk being forcibly relocated. With contributions from young and old – and with a deeply dedicated chairman of the residents’ association as their anchor – the community gets creative. But will the healing succeed?

The Danish-Iranian filmmaker Roja is in the most difficult period of her 36-year life. She is pregnant with her son Oskar and is diagnosed with incurable cancer. In the midst of all this, she must try to find herself. The film is her journey filmed over six dramatic years, in which she documents her everyday life and her thoughts about living with a disease that can cost her everything. How do you live when your precious time on earth is running out too soon? However, Roja is the last to feel sorry for herself. She immerses herself in being present, and then she sets out to chart her Iranian origins and the dramatic history of her family, which opened a new chapter when her politically engaged parents fled Iran after the revolution and ended up in Denmark.

A panel discussion in the Student Association as a kind of frame, you watch various so-called live shows and you met actors like Effie Schou, Søren Strømberg, Dale Robinson and Keld Rex Holm. A lot of attention was given to Bodil Joensen, a very pet-friendly young lady, who would like to enjoy a bull named Sofus.

Initially, the two female directors wanted to make a film as a way of better understanding their own sexual desires and frustrations. In response to a casting call, more than a hundred ordinary young women turned up and talked straight into the camera about their erotic fantasies. As shooting progressed, the filmmakers realized that these intimate casting sessions should in fact be the final film.

The relationship between Greenland and Denmark is full of fantasy and myths. And these are exactly what Danish artist Lasse Lau reflects upon – and in turn documents – in his first feature-length film. But how do you give a form to the Greenlandic experience when you are an outsider yourself? Lau has created a sensitive film about authenticity and recreation by letting both elements become a part of the work, together with his performers. But also by watching and listening intently. The colonial history is entrenched in both Greenland's infinitely beautiful landscapes and in the collective consciousness. But so is the willingness to break with it and look ahead with a new political self-awareness. 'Lykkelænder' is the result of a long-term research project, but talks about its extremely complex topics in a way that grounds the postcolonial perspective in a recognisable life experience. It does so with both a sense of humour and with emphasis.
