On 8 December 1980, a murder stirred the modern world. Britain’s most famous member of The Beatles was gunned down at the entrance to his residence in New York. What turned a fan into the killer of the man he adored? Composer Ivo Josipović - and none other than Croatia’s former President - has had a very rich musical career alongside one in politics. He has written over 50 chamber music pieces for various instruments, chamber orchestra and symphony orchestra as well as serving as director of the contemporary music festival, Music Biennale Zagreb. The fate of John Lennon has intrigued the composer and with librettist Marina Biti, the pair have created an opera built around the last days of the Beatle, the people who were important to him and a psychological profile of his murderer. For the world premiere at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, the conductor is Ivan Josip Skender and director Marina Pejnović.

The film is set over the course of a New Year's Eve night in the Croatian port city of Split, where it follows three parallel plots. The first plot line features a small-time drug dealer Nike (Marinko Prga) and a young widow Marija (Nives Ivankovic); the second plot line deals with a drug addict called Maja (Marija Skaricic) who decides to have sex with an US Navy sailor called Franky (Coolio) in exchange for some heroin; the third one shows a young couple, Luka and Andela (Vicko Bilandzic and Ivana Roscic) who spend the night desperately looking for a place to celebrate the New Year by having their first sexual experience. The plots are connected through Dino Dvornik's concert, where all of them pass through at some point, and through the omnipresent fireworks that dot the night sky over the course of the film.

Croatia Records, as the publishing house that published the largest number of new wave releases, is celebrating 40 years of new wave this year. The anniversary is accompanied by many interesting releases and reissues, and the focus is on four vinyls, pearls of the new wave: the first albums of Električni orgazam and Haustor, the only album of Šarlo akrobata and the "Paket aranžman" compilation, which was responsible for the flourishing of the new wave in the former Yugoslavia. "Retro Boom" is a documentary film shot in the period from 2013 to 2019, before COVID-19 pandemic. Filming takes place in the clubs: Vintage industrial Bar, Route 66, Pepermint, KSET, Johann Franck (all in Zagreb) and festivals in Medulin (Tear it up) , Zagreb (Zagreb Vintage Festival), Sveti Martin na Muri (Trash'n'burn). It is a film that brings a cross-section of an interesting retro scene that has existed in Croatia for years. In the last ten years, the vintage (retro) scene has expanded greatly among the young and among the middle generation, it can almost be said that it has become fashionable, but by no means mainstream. The film follows original rockabilly and rock'n'roll bands, fashion, clothes, pin-up girls, barbers, old furniture, old items, motorbikes and a lot more – all of it gathered through interviews and events of the past years.
