    Cynthia Gibb (born December 14, 1963 in Bennington, Vermont, U.S.) is an American actress and former model who has starred in film and on television.

    Gibb grew up in Westport, Connecticut and got her big break at the age of 14 when she was discovered by the Eileen Ford Agency in New York City. She was on the cover of Vogue and Young Miss. Fate then intervened, as director Woody Allen saw her in one of those magazines and gave her her first film role in his 1980 movie Stardust Memories. In the 1986 war film, Salvador, directed by Oliver Stone and starring James Woods, she portrayed an American nun in El Salvador who was raped and murdered.

    Gibb's best known TV role was on the soap opera Search for Tomorrow as Susan "Suzi" Martin Wyatt Carter from 1981-1983. She was also a regular for three seasons on the original Fame TV show and appeared in the first three Diagnosis: Murder movies in 1992 as Dr. Amanda Bentley.

    In the TV adaptation of Gypsy she starred as the adult Rose Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee, opposite Bette Midler as Mama Rose. She later starred in the 1995 short lived TV series Deadly Games. She has also played in many TV movies, including the role of Karen Carpenter in The Karen Carpenter Story (1989).

He stars alongside Anjelica Huston in the forthcoming feature The Watcher in The Woods and he also stars as one of the leads in supernatural thriller The Changeover, alongside Timothy Spall.

She made her Broadway debut in 2017 in The Present, for which she received a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play nomination.     Howard was born in Orlando, Florida. She is the middle of three children. She attended Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, and then graduated from Florida State University with a degree in communications, advertising, and English. She worked at SeaWorld in Orlando as a teenager.

    Howard started her acting career in 1994 when she appeared in one of the "You Will" series of television commercials for AT&T Corporation. Her first major role in television was the two-season sitcom Boston Common as Joy Byrnes.

    In 1998, Howard was cast as Sharon Carter on the television series Two Guys and a Girl. The show was a critical and commercial success, and Howard's performance was praised. She remained on the show for four seasons.

    In 2002, Howard was cast as Natalie Teeger on the television series Monk. The show was a huge hit, and Howard's performance was critically acclaimed. She won a Gracie Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2009. She remained on the show for seven seasons.

    Howard has also appeared in several films, including The Wedding Planner (2001), The Cat in the Hat (2003), and The Ugly Truth (2009).

    She is married to Jarel Portman, and they have two sons.

    In addition to her acting career, Howard is also a spokesperson for several charities, including the American Red Cross and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She is also a certified yoga instructor.
